It’s true, there’s plenty of controversy when it comes to discussions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy, especially for weight loss. I’ve found there tends to be two main groups: The “I love it. It works!” group, and The “I don’t believe it. It must be a scam” group. The funny thing is that no matter which camp a person belongs to they always say the same thing to me when they find out I’m a Master Hypnotist: “That’s great that you help people lose weight with hypnosis, but I really don’t think I could be hypnotized.” Of course the fact that by now in the conversation they are completely avoiding eye contact with me always makes me smile.
Were you aware…
1) Scientific studies have shown that 90-95% of the population CAN be hypnotized?
2) Contrary to popular belief, the smarter you are, the more hypnotizable you are?
So, what is the hypnotic state? Well, according to the Mayo Clinic “hypnosis is a trance-like state in which you have heightened focus, concentration and inner absorption. When you’re under hypnosis, you usually feel calm and relaxed, and you can concentrate intensely on a specific thought, memory, feeling or sensation.” Many of my hypnotherapy clients who also have practiced meditation have said that being in hypnosis is a lot like meditation, on steroids!
In hypnosis some people feel they are easily able to block out distractions, while others feel they are more in a state of hyper-awareness — more alert and aware of the sounds and distractions around them. Neither experience is more right or wrong than the other. And neither way has been shown to adversely affect the mind’s processing of the suggestions given during hypnosis.
When in hypnosis the subconscious mind is more open to suggestions — giving you the ability to use the hypnotic state to help you lose weight more effectively by modifying habits, thoughts, and feelings as they relate directly to food and exercise in your inner mind. Unlike so-called “stage hypnosis,” Therapeutic Hypnosis is completely focused on improving your health and well-being. And while you are more open to suggestion during therapeutic hypnosis, your conscious mind remains intact, alert, and aware; and will not let you do anything it knows you wouldn’t consciously agree is right for you.
So, how can I know if I am “hypnotizable?”
The good news is that there’s a quick yes-or-no quiz you can use to find out just how “hypnotizable” you are. It involves just 14 easy questions, and when you are done, you will know for sure if weight loss hypnosis can work for you…
1) Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night and felt like you couldn’t move and/or speak?
2) Are you able to highly focus your concentration on an idea or task when it’s of interest to you?
3) Do you consider yourself an analytical person?
4) Do you sometimes “zone out” when someone is talking to you, not hearing exactly what was said, because your mind drifts to something unrelated?
5) Have you ever experienced being “in the zone” when playing sports, music, or other such activities?
6) As a child, did you feel that you were more affected by your parents’ tone of voice than by what they actually said?
7) Do other people consider you a caring, empathetic and “feeling type” person?
Have you ever become so involved in a movie, book, or TV show that you’ve cried during a very happy or a very sad moment in the story?
9) Have you ever “zoned out” while driving and missed your exit on the freeway because you were thinking about something else?
10) Are you able to follow important yet simple instructions?
11) Have you ever looked for something (car keys, sunglasses, etc.) that was right in front of you…but you just didn’t see it at the time?
12) Have you had the experience of someone calling your name, but you happened to be so deeply absorbed in thought (or something you were doing) that you simply didn’t hear the person calling you?
13) During adulthood, have you ever walked and/or talked in your sleep?
14) Are you able to picture and/or imagine things in your mind?
