Camping need not be a difficult or irksome task; in fact it can be a lot of fun sleeping in the countryside. There are items though that it is necessary to take in order that your trip is a memorable for all the right reasons. Plan where you are going to stay and write out a checklist. That why you will have all you need for a wonderful camping trip.

Sleeping Arrangements: Thankfully modern tents no longer require a technical degree to put up. Whatever your tent, remember to take the right tools to erect it properly; a hammer for the tent pegs is essential. For a good night’s sleep the minimum requirements are a sleeping bag, ground sheet if one does not come with the tent, and sleeping mat. For greater comfort a headrest or pillow and inflatable mattress are good choices. Take a blanket just in case the nights are colder than you anticipated.

Cooking: If you plan to do your own cooking the stove and its gas are obvious, but don’t forget the pans, pots, kettle and spatula to cook with and the matches to light it.Plates, cutlery and cups also make eating easier! Canned food is easier to store but if you take fresh you will need a cooler to store them in. For canned food a can-opener is essential. Fresh water should also be taken just in case.

Clothing: It may be the middle of summer but it can still get cold at nights or rain. Make sure you have enough clothing to cover all eventualities. Take a water-proof jacket, jumper, boots, sandals, swimwear, hat and in case you do go out one night - a nice outfit. If camping in the winter then up the cold/wet weather gear requirements.

Personal Hygiene: Nothing is going to be worse than unpacking your bag and finding you’ve forgotten your toothbrush. Camping sites usually have shops stocked with such things but in case you are not on a site remember to take: toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, towel, razor and comb/brush.

Miscellaneous: Important things can be found in the miscellaneous list, such as a first aid kit. Penknife, matches and phone are good for emergencies. There is nothing worse than tripping over tent ropes and down ditches when trying to find the bathroom in the middle of the night - a torch is essential.

This is just a general overview of what you need to make your camping trip a happy time. You can add to the list by all means. Happy Camping!
