It is not fun to have acne, and it affects millions of teens every year and the number is growing. If you make these mistakes treating your acne, you will make your acne worse and it can remain a problem for you well into adulthood.

1. Squeezing and Scratching

Squeezing your pimples is definitely out. You could be shoving puss back into the pores, so instead of coming out, it’s going back in. This makes the affected area worse and it also spreads bacteria which causes more infection and aggravates the problem.

2. Scrubbing Your Acne

The area that is affected by acne must not be scrubbed. It will only end up oozing, with open sores. This will take longer to heal and is prone to get infected.

The more you scrub, the worse it will get. Use a mild treatment instead. A non-allergic, mild soap is the best option. If you really want to make sure the area is kept clean, you can use the soap with a soft cloth, three times a day. This will prevent the area form becoming re-infected.

3. Give up Make-Up

You have to stop using make-up for a while, because it clogs your pores, these areas need to breathe to heal.

4. Over the Counter Medication

Use over the counter medication with caution as they could be too harsh for your skin and cause irritation. Don’t overdo the medication because it can make the condition worse.

To summarize, if you have a very severe case of acne, seeing a dermatologist is probably the best. Blasting your pimples with harsh creams and ointments and squeezing pimples is going to make the condition worse and leave you with scars. Choose products wisely and stick to the right treatment for your skin type.
