Memory foam came about early on in the 70’s when NASA started a development project intended to produce a material that could help relieve the discomfort astronauts experienced during lift-off. Note that you actually do not need a traditional box spring beneath a memory foam bed. Typically the only reason you would need to make use of a box spring is to position the mattress at a height that you’re happy with.
