Snoring can be funny at first that it becomes a normal thing for some snorers. But it’s not! Snoring can be annoying and people around a snorer can get very annoyed and even consider it a nuisance. And worse snoring can also be a sign of underlying health problems. A snorer’s bed partner, roommates or even the whole family can be affected by the snoring. To prevent this from this happening, it is best to act immediately by following some tips.
Stop drinking and smoking - These two can cause you to snore and wake up the whole block. The reason? Alcohol causes a partial collapse on your airways which can immediate start snoring. Smoking on the other hand causes blockage on the small vessels of the lungs and swelling on the tissue in the throat and mucus membrane in the nose. Smoking can result to sleep apnea. Take note that if you stop drinking and smoking, you are stopping other health risks as well.
Sleep regularly - Sleeping for few hours each night can cause snoring. Why? Unbalanced sleeping patterns develop into respiratory instability while asleep. And there is nothing good about respiratory instability because it can lead to unstable breathing. Hence, you need to regulate your sleeping patterns. Set a specific time of sleeping. Wake up in the morning on the same time, every day. Sometimes, 7 to 8 hours of sleep is all you need.
Look for anti-snoring devices in the market which can aid in preventing snoring. Such as nasal dilators and strips, homeopathic throat tablets and sprays and anti-snoring pillows. The said devices can aid in clearing away the air passages and maintain the right amount of air needed in the body during sleep.
Having a cold or allergies can also lead to snoring because of the inflammation of the adenoids and/or tonsils. A simple intake of decongestants and antibiotics will help cure the cold or allergies thus preventing snoring.
Sleeping position is another cause of snoring. For some sleeping on the back can cause snoring because of the blocking of the airways and this goes as well for sleeping on the sides. Find a position where snoring does not occur.
Weight loss is another effective way to prevent snoring. People who are overweight or obese are highly susceptible to snore. Aside from the loud noise created there are other health risks involved when being overweight. Proper exercise and diet will help shed off extra calories.
Keep away from snore-triggers. These triggers such as sleeping pills sometimes contain antihistamines which can make the muscles and tissues around the throat area to relax making them block the airways.
Consult a doctor - Mild snorers can easily be cured. But there are cases in which snoring is a sign of other serious medical condition such as hypothyroidism or diabetes that requires surgical procedures. If you are snoring for some time this is the right time to consult a doctor.
