Snoring is no stranger to many. It’s so common that many disregard it.
Snoring usually happens when the body and muscles are in a relaxed state. This relaxed state happens during sleep and the loose hanging tissues then blocks the air passage in the throat thus creates the snoring effect.
The tongue for example, would fall back into the throat when the jaw drops. Thus, narrowing the air passage. The pressure then passing through the throat would be doubled (or tripled depending on the speed of the wind that runs through it). Thus, vibration is created.
We often hack this problem by creating states wherein the muscles would not fall back to create blockages.
Since sleeping on one’s back can restrict air passage, it is best to sleep on either sides. Other than that, loose muscles such as the tongue has the tendency to fall back caused by gravity blocking the air passages thus creating less area for the air to pass through.
This is why the first device created to keep a person from snoring is the sock that covers a tennis ball stitched at the center of the snorer’s pajama shirt. If this is worn, the snorer will be kept from sleeping on his back due to discomfort.
One of the most common causes of snoring is obesity. Overweight people have a higher risk of snoring because of the extra flesh that can add up the loose muscles. With these relaxed muscles, the air passages are blocked which eventually lead to loud resonating snores. Thus this indicates that the heavier a person is, the louder and deeper the snores are.
By knowing this, it is obvious that one way to prevent snoring is by losing weight. This does not only lower the risk of many diseases it also dramatically reduces the tendency to snore. Snoring can be an embarrassment and annoyance to many people and by keeping a healthy weight will avoid these negative effects.
Patience and willingness are needed when one really wants to lose weight. Having a healthy diet and engaging into physical activities are the main solutions to overweight. Some activities that one may incorporate are yoga, aerobics, sports, and also regular running sessions. Though it may seem too much work, it does takes time to see the body to go back to its normal size. This can be hard work but it definitely pays off.
Aside from obesity, alcohol and some drugs can trigger snoring. These substances are able to make the body more relaxed during sleep thus inducing snoring and can also inhibit breathing. Being too tired in the end of the day is also a contributing factor in snoring, so if possible avoid being overworked or tired.
It is also important to establish a regular pattern of sleep. Having a sleep plan prevents snoring and allows better sleep. This means, a bed partner can be awaken by your snoring and you are more unlikely to wake up with the sounds of your snoring.
Avoid breathing using your mouth. This often is the issue when it comes to snoring. Those who breathe through their mouths often have more aggravated problems since their dropped jaws encourage the tongue to drop back towards the throat. You can practice nasal breathing as early as you detect that you are beginning to get used to mouth breathing. After all, treatment for snoring often requires you to switch from mouth to nasal breathing. Indeed, another proof that prevention is much better than finding ways of treating the condition.
